After the publication of the Updated Operating Rules , the measure is now entering its most concrete phase: the one in which companies can participate in the procedure and access energy early. In this article, we'll clarify how Energy Release 2.0 works and what installers and operators in the sector need to know! What is Energy Release 2.0? Energy Release 2.0 It is a mechanism designed to encourage the creation of new renewable energy production capacity by energy-intensive companies. Its operation is based on a principle that is simple in logic, but structured in practice: for an initial period of 36 months, GSE provides electricity to businesses at favorable conditions. In fact, for the three-year period 2025-2027, beneficiary companies will be able to access electricity supplies at capped price of €65/MWh . In exchange, these companies commit to building new renewable energy plants. The energy received isn't "free," but is repaid over the next 20 years through the production of the new plants. In this way, the measure seeks to achieve two goals at the same time: support businesses in the short term accelerate investments in renewables in the long term Who can participate The measure is aimed at energy-intensive companies , i.e. subjects with high energy consumption, already included or in the process of being included in the official lists of the Fund for Energy and Environmental Services (CSEA) . Participation is possible both in single form both in aggregate form. In the latter case, the companies organize themselves into a group, identifying a lead entity that represents the aggregation in relations with the GSE and signs the final contract. How participation works To access the mechanism, companies must: submit an expression of interest through the GSE portal, indicating your energy needs within the limits of recognized consumption. This phase is accompanied by the payment of a deposit, which serves as a guarantee of the seriousness of the participation. Subsequently, the energy available comes awarded through a competitive procedure. If demand exceeds availability, energy is distributed proportionally among eligible participants. Once the procedure is completed , the selected subjects they move on to the contractual phase , which starts the actual mechanism of advance and subsequent repayment. ⚠️ IMPORTANT: The The plants must be completed within 40 months of signing the contracts , ensuring full alignment with the objectives of renewable growth and national energy security. Call for proposals timing The application window is set between: April 13, 2026 12:00 pm ( opening) May 13, 2026 12:00 pm (absolute closure) Requests must be sent exclusively via the dedicated GSE portal.
